La nostra storia è breve…

You never know where a gig will take you.

In 2023, we were asked to sing some opera at a birthday party and teach the audience a little about opera at the same time.

Maybe we were just really locked in that night. Maybe it was the overall vibe, but folks seemed to love the combo of history, story, passion, and of course, song.

The next gig came from one of the guests, and quickly became our first “home”: the wonderful Isetta Cafe Bistro, then helmed by Thomas.

Our first show there sold out, and blossomed into three years of opera arias, duets, musical theatre, and even some James Taylor.

Since then, we’ve travelled across British Columbia to share what we love and why we love it. From backyard garden gigs in West Van, to Christmas carols in Boston Bar, to Bach delights with the incredible Vancouver Bach Choir, we’re beyond grateful.

In 2025, we began offering deeper dives into opera. Mythopoetic themes in Verdi and Bellini. Die Walküre’s commentary on industrialisation. How even the grammar of an aria can deliver heartbreaking emotion.

…finally, a chance to really use our degrees 😅

Meet Chloé, soprano

Chloé Hurst is an active singer, pianist and teacher in Vancouver. Hailed by Opera Canada as having "enviable clarity and precision," her talent has taken her around the world. Chloé has had the privilege of performing across North America, Europe, and China in operas, concerts, recitals, and competitions, including being a finalist on the popular Chinese television program, Xing Guang Da Dao. Shortly before the pandemic, she won first prize in the Canadian Division of the 28th World Music Competition.

Alongside performing, Chloé is the division chair of the Early Music Education department and also teaches private piano, theory and voice lessons at Vancouver Academy of Music.

Meet Aaron, baritone

Aaron Durand (he/him) is known for three things: he sings, grows a good beard, and knows a little about a lot. A love of opera has gifted Aaron with travels across the world, singing on stages from St. John's to Sichuan Province, Prague to Penticton.

Musical highlights from Aaron's opera life include founding an irreverent classical music group in Toronto (Tongue in Cheek Productions), performing The Overcoat with Tapestry Opera and Vancouver Opera, and singing Debussy's "Beau Soir" to a bartender and three delighted Japanese salarymen in a Kyoto izakaya—followed by their rousing version of the 80s hit, スシ食いねェ.

As an opera singer, Aaron is widely known for his easygoing nature, beautiful fluid baritone" (Globe & Mail), and "sense of the comical and the ludicrous" (Calgary Herald).
